Our Partnership with Ted Smith's "TRI THIS" Project

We're delighted to announce our partnership with photographer and Film Photographer of the Year finalist, Ted Smith, in support of his exciting new community initiative: TRI THIS: Five Rolls. One Vision.

The project is built around a wonderfully simple concept. Ten photographers from across the UK will each receive five rolls of Kodak Tri-X 400 and be challenged to create a cohesive body of work centred around a single idea. Rather than chasing trends, algorithms, or technical perfection, participants are encouraged to commit to a vision and explore it with purpose.

As a film lab, we know that some of the most rewarding photographic work comes from long-term projects and thoughtful storytelling. We also understand that rising film and processing costs can sometimes become a barrier to experimentation and personal creative work. Ted's project directly addresses that challenge by placing film into the hands of passionate photographers and encouraging them to create something meaningful.

To help support everyone selected for the programme, we're pleased to offer 20% off film development and scanning services to successful TRI THIS applicants throughout the duration of the project.

Our hope is that this partnership removes some of the financial pressure from the creative process and allows participants to focus on what matters most: making photographs, developing ideas, and producing a body of work they can be proud of.

Ted's own photographic practice has become widely recognised for its distinctive analogue approach, cinematic black-and-white imagery, and commitment to intentional image-making. The ethos behind TRI THIS aligns closely with our own belief that film photography is at its best when it encourages patience, craft, and creative exploration.

We're excited to see the diverse range of projects that emerge from these five rolls of film. From documentary and portraiture to landscape, street photography, and beyond, we look forward to helping participants bring their visions from negative to final image.
